
Paignton
Visit the holiday resort of Paignton on the South Devon coastline in sheltered Torbay, centrally located between Brixham and Torquay. Paignton with it´s red sanded and gently sloping beach is very popular as a familiy holiday resort where you can hire pedalos, deck chairs, or sun loungers. Paignton Sands is instantly recognized by its pleasure pier which was opened in June 1879 and had a major facelift in 1980. Also there is a thriving harbour with plenty of pleasure boats offering trips along the breathtakingly beautiful South Devon coastline.
Paignton is mentioned in records dating back to the Domesday Book of 1086 AD. The town´s name has also been spelled as Peynton and Paington and is derived from Paega´s town, the name of the original Celtic settlement. Paignton was a small fishing village until the 19th century, when the Paington Harbour Act led to the construction of a new harbour in 1837. It was also around this time that the modern spelling of Paignton appeared.
Adjacent to the beach is Paignton Green offering the perfect spot to just sit and relax, also in the summer months there are a number of exciting family events staged here, also on the green is Pirates Bay - an 18 hole pirate themed adventure golf course full of fun and adventure for adults and children alike. Rather than the traditional UK style crazy golf, adventure golf is an American concept where the holes are skill based.




Just a stroll across the road from the beach and there are plenty of inns with outside seating to have a meal or a drink with the sea just metres away, or have a wonder through the town where there are lots of cafes and restaurants.

Paignton has 5 beaches, Broadsands Beach, Elberry Cove, Goodrington Sands, Paignton Sands and Preston Sands. Paignton also has another 3 small coves, the first two are Saltern Cove and Oyster Cove which is next to Goodrington Sands Beach, and Fairy Cove is next to Paignton Harbour.
Preston Sands
At low tide it is possible to walk between Preston Sands and Paignton Sands which is separated at high tide by the Redcliff Hotel.
Goodrington Sands
Goodrington Sands Beach in Paignton is at the heart of the English Riviera, midway between Brixham and Torquay, a safe sandy award winning family beach where you can hire pedalos, sun loungers, beach huts or deck chairs, or go for a stroll through the gardens on the cliffs, which are lit up at dusk, to Paignton harbour.
Broadsands
Broadsands Beach in Paignton is in an idealistic rural setting, it is a red sandy beach which is between Goodrington and Brixham in Torbay, and has great views of Tor Bay, making it popular with locals and visitors. The beach is particular popular with families.
Elberry Cove
Elberry Cove in Paignton is a pebbled secluded beach surrounded by woodland.
